Black Queer August Altar Build - Hosted by SONG

  • 5047 Union Street Union City, GA, 30291 United States (map)

Description of Event from SONG Facebook Page:

We as SONG understand that movement work is deeply spiritual in the fight for liberation. We use altars to grieve and to come together as community.

For working class people we often do work that desensitizes us and demoralizes us It is part of how we are oppressed. Because of this, we often don’t have time to grieve and uplift our fallen kin. When the state harms our communities, we often don’t have time to process and heal our grief collectively.

We want to create a space for conversation and community that makes people feel whole, connected, and courageous. The ways that we help to create this space is a sort of alchemy. Usually alchemy is defined as a magical process by which something of little value is made into something of great value. As opposed to chemistry, which is a process that many see as putting together a formula that, if followed correctly, comes out the same every time.

We are planning this action to uplift the lives of our fallen kin and those caged by the state and also to heal. We want to use this space to heal. We are also here to demand that our people are set free from cages and an end to state sanctioned violence.

Come join SONG Atlanta as we confront the state at Union City Jail to heal ourselves and demand that our people are set free.

This is a multiracial coalitional event. Please wear a mask
We will be practicing social distancing guidelines. Check out our IG Live @songatlanta to join virtually!
